The beach has an allure that has captivated me since childhood. Summers spent at Lake Erie gathering seaglass with my Grandma led to seeking it in places like Puerto Rico, Florida, California, Maine, Scotland, Ireland, and Costa Rica. I've always loved glass, and antiques, and the lovely frosty smoothness of seaglass is just so inspiring.
Eco friendly, ancient, and beautiful! Seaglass is old broken bottles tumbled in the waves and sand until the result is opaque, smooth "gems." It comes in all the colors you can imagine, with the most common being white, brown, green, and "Coke bottle" aqua (my favorite). Cobalt blue, red, and orange are pretty rare, though with plastics taking over, all of it is becoming scarce. I also found my first piece of black seaglass! How cool is that! =)
I began taking silversmithing and jewelry design classes in order to transform seaglass and shells into a wearable art form. I "let the sea" shine in my designs.
